I decided it was a sign from God that I needed to leave (more storms were rolling in anyhow). I asked for a refund on that night which they agreed to do. They also said they'd move me to another cabin or give me a rain check. I appreciated the offer but decided to just come back later.
I would have did a 2 1/2 if it was available... The campground is kinda left as is, very little if any leveling done in quite some time. There are no grills for cooking, the power was disconnected at our site and moved across the lot, took a few minutes to figure out where to hook up. There isn't a designated camp fire area just make your pile and light it anywhere it seems. The worst part, we had asked for a water front for the kids to fish and bring their kayaks, the water front consists of a 2 1/2 to 3 ft muddy bank for them to climb up and down to get in and out of the water. This was a complete mess. And 1/2 the picnic tables on the grounds were set up nicely, ours was not. Old and not level in the least. My recommendations would be to make a fire pit area ( safety concern) level the picnic area and add a camp grill. Make some sort of dock area off the bank for the people staying on the grounds. The shower houses were surprisingly nice(ish). I would stay again if they make some improvements. We stayed at lot 109.
I WOULD stay at this resort again. I wasn't looking for the Ritz Carlton....I was fine in a tiny cabin with a dirty bathroom. It was facing the lake so I could watch the sunset. The sunset and lake made it all worth it until the storms came.
I stayed in one of the "value" cabins (Lakeside #6) It was 1 bedroom, 1 bath. It had a nice deck facing the lake and I loved that. There was a cigarette butt on the railing when I walked up and that was nasty. Once inside, it looked relatively clean . It had newer carpet and linoleum. That was nice. I wasn't looking for chandeliers and marble floors. The kitchen is extremely tiny. No problem for me, but if you plan to do much cooking you may not like it. The kitchen towels smelled VERY MILDEWY. That was super gross! The bathroom towels (which were white and bleached) were fine. The bedroom was fine. The shower however, was gross. The walls had brownish dirty streaks and the floor of the shower looked gross. Anyone who has ever tent camped and used a bathhouse shower would feel like this was the Ritz Carlton comparatively. Those who wouldn't dream of camping and using a bathhouse shower will not want to tolerate this bathroom. There was no WIFI in the cabin. I liked that. You may not.
Highland Marina used to be the place we always stayed during our fishing trip but lately things have seemed to start going down hill. The chalets are beautiful, but the mattresses are very uncomfortable. We upgraded to those from the Lakeside and Front cabins because their beds were also uncomfortable, but found the same issue there...even after paying more than 150.00 per night So we decided to start staying in town at Holiday Inn Express.
However, I'll stay at a different cabin next time besides Lakeside #6. Leaks can be tricky to fix!
This was a beautiful a beautiful place to stay. Had a great time with my family. I will definitely come again and recommend this place to anyone.
This place has the potential to be awesome; however, the management/ownership needs to focus on the details. We rented the bass boat for 3 days and despite the pick-up at 9am, we never were able to get out of the marina before 930. You also had to have it back by 5pm despite 2+ hrs of light left to fish. The first night they didn't plug in the battery charger so day 2 the trolling motor only lasted the morning. We took out a pontoon for the afternoon, the radio volume was very loud and the (-) button didn't work to turn it down so we just turned it off. Day 3 the bass boat wouldn't start so we had to take the Crappie boat which stalled out numerous times. We stayed in the Chalet for 4 nights (sleeps 6) they had 4 bath towels. They left 1 trash bag, 1 roll of paper towels, 1 roll of the cheapest quality toilet paper ever made...and we never got a visit from housekeeping asking if we needed anything. For $300+/night and $240/day boat rental I would expect more. The staff did their best to make up for the ownerships shortfalls but in the end we were disappointed.
The real problem began the morning after I got there. A terrible storm came and the rain poured down. Tornadoes swirled. After it settled down some, I went into the bathroom to get a quick shower before anymore tornadoes arose. I took 1 step in the room and fell flat on my back. The floor was wet and felt like you had oiled it. Turns out the roof began leaking during the torrential downpours. I don't hold this against them...how are they to know it leaks? They don't live in the cabin themselves. Even in Georgia, THIS kind of thunderstorm was unusual. I told them about the leak and she assured me that she would tell maintenance.
